Private Jet to the Cannes Film Festival
The festival is typically held in mid-to-late May, running just under two weeks. In some years its final days overlap directly with the Monaco Grand Prix — worth checking both events' official calendars together if you're planning a Riviera trip, since an overlap compounds an already busy week into something close to unprecedented demand for regional airspace.
Why demand spikes so sharply
Charter requests for Cannes have reportedly risen by around 25% year-on-year as more high-net-worth travellers and industry figures switch from commercial to private for the festival. During peak event weeks, regional air traffic movements have been reported to surge by as much as 40% above normal levels, as hundreds of private aircraft compete for limited tarmac space across Nice, Cannes Mandelieu, and nearby overflow airports. These figures are drawn from aviation trade press and charter-industry reporting on festival-week traffic; always confirm current conditions with a broker for your specific dates.
Airports for Cannes
Nice Côte d'Azur is the main gateway, but Cannes Mandelieu (closer to the festival itself) is popular for smaller aircraft, especially once Nice reaches saturation during the festival's busiest days — typically the opening days and around the amfAR Gala, when demand for arrival slots peaks.
Route and pricing
This event is reached via the same route as our London to Nice guide — flight times and baseline pricing by aircraft class are covered there. As with Monaco Grand Prix week, expect festival pricing to sit above baseline given the surge in demand described above.
